11 Ways Self-Hypnosis Improved My Health
Hypnosis and Self-Hypnosis For Greater Mental & Physical WellBEing
Hypnosis is an intriguing and often misunderstood phenomenon, practiced for centuries across various cultures. In recent years, it has gained recognition as a therapeutic tool, with professionals guiding clients through hypnotic states to induce change. I remember as a child being intrigued by the performance of Paul McKenna who regularly appeared on the BBC in the UK, performing hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP). I was fascinated with the wonderful possibilities that could be achieved through adopting the mind over matter approach and I set out to learn all I could.
Later as a young adult I explored other alternative practices and techniques for achieving self mastery including Vipassana Meditation, Yoga and NLP. However, it was my introduction to Men Ab, an ancient Egyptian technique taught by Ra Un Nefer Amen that really opened up the world of self-hypnosis to me. I realised that within the practice lay a simple and effective process that anyone can do to achieve self mastery and transformative results.
While I remember Paul McKenna's demonstrations drawing gasps of surprise, disbelief and fear among his audience, upon my introduction to Self-hypnosis I realised that the self induced trance-like state which is achieved through altering my consciousness was in fat a gateway to personal growth, reduced stress, and a way to achieve my goals. This trance state, a form of heightened awareness and deep relaxation, allowed my subconscious mind to become more receptive to positive suggestions. By bypassing the critical, analytical conscious mind, I was able to access my deeper subconscious, where beliefs, habits, and behaviors are rooted.
The power of self-hypnosis lies in its ability to facilitate change in areas such as stress management, emotional healing, behavioral modification, and much more. Whether you’re looking to enhance your mental well-being, achieve personal goals, or overcome challenges, self-hypnosis can serve as a valuable tool for self-improvement. Below are the main areas that I was able to use self-hypnosis to improve my health, well-being.
Enhanced Confidence and Self-Esteem
Firstly, self-hypnosis empowered me to overcome my self-limiting beliefs. Through positive affirmations and suggestions, I was able to firstly, become aware of and then to reshape my inner narrative, boost my self-worth, and cultivate greater confidence. Over time, this practice fostered a more positive self-image (which was severely damaged following an abusive relationship). As I repaired my self-esteem, it helped me face challenges with newfound assurance. I went on to activate my superpowers to achieve success in my career and creative pusuits.
Behavioral Modification
Many people struggle to change unwanted habits such as smoking, overeating, or nail-biting. Self-hypnosis provided me with a direct path to the subconscious mind, where I was able to overcome stress eating and drinking and to make it easier to break free from ingrained behaviors and patterns triggered by my lone parenting experience. By reprogramming my mind with positive suggestions, I was able to replace my emotional eating and alcoholic drinking habits with with healthier alternatives to soothe and nurture me. Stress Reduction and Improved Coping Mechanisms
Self-hypnosis and deep meditation practices also helped me to promote deep relaxation, offering an effective way to reduce stress and build resilience during my years working in the City of London and being a lone parent trying to make end's meet. By calming both my mind and body, I felt equipped with a valuable coping mechanism for navigating life’s challenges. As I become more adept at managing stress, (and believe me it was streeeeeeeeeeeeesful! my mental and physical wellBEing improved.
I remember one particular incident where a colleague was constantly undermining my efforts. The situation was confusing and highly stressful as during out-of-hours events (of which there were many) she would be my bestie! My hair began to fall out - a very clear signal that I needed to do something. I began working with my subconscious to tap into my warrior persona and blueprint better outcomes. I am thankful to say my hair stopped falling out and I still have a full head of luscious locks.
Pain Management
My experience of sciatica arrived suddenly in 2016 and it took me months to work out the source of the issue. In the meantime I approached recovery using a number of therapies including acupuncture and physiotherapy. But it was the process of using words of power and entering a deep state of trance that produced the most dramatic relief and within hours a complete recovery. I am thankful that I have never again been inflicted by sciatica and give thanks for the deep self healing that took place through seeding in my subconscious mind. You can read the full story of the quantum healing that took place here.
Empowerment and Self-Control
One of the greatest benefits of self-hypnosis is the sense of empowerment it fosters. I can certainly attest to some very challenging periods when a neighbour dispute certainly tested the limits of my sanity. By regularly accessing my subconscious mind, I was able to strengthen my ability to make positive choices and resist impulses that might have not only hinder personal growth but resulted in exacerbating the situation. Self hypnosis enabled me to become more in control of my thoughts, emotions, and actions during probably the most stressful experience I have ever encountered.
Emotional Healing and Trauma Resolution
This is one of the most fulfilling results of this practice which can also assist in processing unresolved emotions and trauma. By accessing the subconscious, you can work through emotional wounds in a safe, controlled environment. I did this to tackle an issue of an abusive ex who still regularly entered my dream-state. I was able to work through solutions and scenarios that resulted in never again having to relive trauma in my dreamstate. This process lead to significant emotional healing, helping releasing me from pain and the ability to move forward in my personal relationships.
Improved Sleep
Talking of sleep, if you struggle with insomnia or restless nights, self-hypnosis can be a game-changer. By calming the mind and creating a peaceful mental space, hypnosis helped me achieve sleep even BEFORE my head hit my pillow :)))) and improve the quality of my nights. The only insomnia I have is during the full moon :)))
Goal Setting and Achievement
Even as I worked for a Top 5 Consultancy firm, I had grand goals of achieving independence and founding my own business. With my free time greatly reduced to around 2 hours each day it was only by hypnotising myself and aligning my subconscious mind with conscious goals, that I was able to accelerate my progress toward success. Using visualization and affirmation techniques to enhance my focus and motivation, I was able to remain committed to my objectives and even went on to achieve multiple awards for my efforts in two separate industries.
I can also attest to using self hypnosis to deeply embed my intentions for Supreme Health & WellBEing from the age of 18. It is a story I love to tell about the power of intentions and the value of lineage and I give thanks to my grandmother Laura for being the catalyst of my Supreme Health Journey. Performance Enhancement
Self-hypnosis has allowed me to mentally rehearse my success and achieve peek performance when I was called upon to present or perform in front of an audience which has been a godsend as I am naturally an introvert :) Whether you're an athlete, public speaker, or creative professional, self-hypnosis can help you unlock your full potential. By improving focus, concentration, and confidence, you can enhance your performance in any field.
Improved Focus and Concentration
In our fast-paced world, maintaining focus can be a challenge. Self-hypnosis sharpens your ability to concentrate by guiding you into a state of heightened awareness. It has greatly improved my cognitive abilities and I’ve been able to train myself to take in large amounts of information quickly.
Increased Emotional Resilience
Self-hypnosis nurtures emotional awareness and resilience, making it easier to process and manage difficult emotions. By accessing your subconscious, you can reframe emotional responses, fostering a more balanced and adaptable approach to life’s inevitable ups and downs. During the pandemic I ended up in hospital with what was suspected as appendicitis. It turned out not to be the case, but the ordeal of investigations tested my resilience to remain calm in all circumstances. During the long periods of waiting it was meditation and self-hypnosis that assisted me in accessing and activating deeper self-healing modalities including visualization.
As you can see the benefits of self-hypnosis are far reaching and can improve almost every aspect of our lives, thereby improving wellBEing, self-esteem, and our abilities to heal. I have certainly benefited from seeking to harness the inner workings of my subconscious mind to effect body and mind. So now let me explain the process.
The Process of Self-Hypnosis
While incorporating self-hypnosis into your life requires practice, patience, and commitment. The process itself is simple and consists of several key stages:
1. Setting the Scene
Create a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed for at least 30 minutes. Sit or lie down with your body fully supported. The environment you choose should be free of distractions, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the experience.
2. Relaxation Through Breathing
Deep diaphragmatic breathing, also known as belly breathing, is an essential technique for inducing relaxation. Begin by placing one hand on your chest and the other on your abdomen. As you breathe, focus on making the hand on your abdomen rise and fall with each breath. This method reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and enhances oxygen flow, creating a sense of calm and mental clarity.
3. Deepening the Trance
To deepen your hypnotic state, visualize yourself descending a staircase or riding an elevator. With each step or floor, imagine yourself moving into a deeper state of relaxation. This process quiets the conscious mind and encourages your subconscious to come to the forefront.
4. Anchoring
Anchoring involves creating a mental or physical trigger that can be used to quickly re-enter a hypnotic state in future sessions. This might be a word, phrase, or gesture that you associate with deep relaxation. Over time, the anchor will become a powerful tool to induce trance more quickly.
5. Self-Suggestion and Affirmations
During self-hypnosis, you will use positive affirmations to reinforce your goals. Formulate these suggestions in the present tense and repeat them during your trance. The power of suggestion is amplified when your mind is in this receptive state, allowing the affirmations to take root in your subconscious.
6 Reinforcement
In this stage, visualize your goals as though they are already achieved. Embrace the emotions associated with success, confidence, or happiness. Feel these emotions fully, allowing them to reinforce the positive suggestions you've made.
7. Awakening
After reinforcing your suggestions, gently guide yourself out of the trance state. Count yourself back to full awareness, gradually becoming more alert and present.
8. Reflection and Evaluation
Once you're fully awake, take a few moments to reflect on the experience. Consider keeping a journal where you can record your thoughts, emotions, and progress. This practice can help you track your journey and evaluate the effectiveness of your self-hypnosis sessions.
I hope that I have been able to convince you that self-hypnosis is a powerful tool for personal growth, healing, and transformation: by accessing the subconscious mind, you can overcome limiting beliefs, manage stress, and achieve your goals one by one. With regular practice and dedication, self-hypnosis can become a valuable part of your health and wellness routine.
